Fruit filled Sangria

Perfect to bring a taste of spain to a bbq or picnic, here is our favourite recipe for sangria filled with fruit of the season
Sangria
Ingredients
290ml/½ pint golden caster sugar
290ml/½ pint water
1 lemon
2 oranges
1 bottle red wine, chilled
5 tbsp brandy
6 nectarines or peaches
450g/1lb cherries

Method
1. Measure the sugar in a jug until it just reaches the 290ml/½ pint mark. Tip into a pan with the water. Cut a couple of thin strips of peel from the lemon and one of the oranges and add to the pan.
2. Slowly bring to the boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then increase the heat and boil for 4-5 minutes to make a light syrup. Strain into a large jug or bowl, leave to cool, then add the wine and brandy.
3. Using a sharp knife, remove all the peel and pith from the oranges, then cut the flesh between the membranes into segments. Halve, stone and slice the nectarines or peaches. Stone the cherries. Divide the fruit between six large wine glasses and pour the sangria over the top. Chill for at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours.

Have we inspired you too?

Painting

I love Joules clothing and have been a regular customer since last September when I discovered the local shop! (Street Outlet store).

Inspired by this season's summery and beachy catalogues and colours you use, as well as various adventures across the country I persuaded myself to pick up my paints again!
The lighthouse was inspired by a visit to Souter Lighthouse, (Up north somewhere) and attached is a photograph!

Emily King, Casper and Timmy

Horse

I unfortunately haven’t been riding for a while because I had a bad fall off my young horse (Casper) and had very bad whiplash, infected lung, and broken ribs. But luckily I am fully recovered now!
I competed at my first event since my fall yesterday, at Stockland Lovell in the JRN, on Timmy. We did a 35 dressage, one down show jumping, and clear in the time cross country. I came 6th and I was so pleased! But if I hadn't had the show jump down I would have won!
I am competing at Aston Le Walls this coming weekend and Wilton the next, and have got lots more planned!

Unfortunately, Casper has gone and done something to his hock, so he is having the rest of the year out, and hopefully he will be recovered to start competing next year. Because of Casper's injury, I am looking for another horse, so if anybody if wanting to be an owner of an event horse, don't hesitate to contact me on livingthegoodlife@joulesclothing.co.uk

Geddington cricket

Cricket

Geddington has a long tradition street cricket and has been going on for years. the competition is the chance for the whole village to unite and play a fast flowing 5over cricket match against each other.
The base of our team are 4 old primary school friends who have kept in touch from due to the game of cricket and our village school. We all still have family who live in the village and this year we wanted to represent our old school whilst wearing the Joules balliol rugby shirts.

Our first game was against the Geddington tennis club which we cruised past with Michael Thrower opening the bat and some high scores from Tim clay. Also great bowling from Dan litman and not to mention some athletic wicket keeping skills from Cavan Treanor.

Our second encounter of the day was against a strong West Street which we all knew was going to be a hard game. West Street had made a good innings of 74 from 5overs, so it was down to us to bat. Tim Clay and Yannick Green opened the bat, as we were on target from the first two overs scoring 32 runs from 2overs with some huge 6's and 4's! After Yannick Green was dismissed from a strong effort batting, we knew that we had to score 45 runs to win from 2.3overs. Unfortunatly our taget just fell short dispite a galliant slogging spree from Dan litman and Sam Glossop.

We'll keep you posted for the event next year!

Top tips for your hens

I use Life-guard poultry tonic for my ex-battery hens. It’s very economical (25ml to 10 litres of water) and has helped them start laying really soon.

Also I was told at a recent talk by the Kent poultry group that Apple cider vinegar is a very good natural wormer. It’s been used for years, apparently. You need to use10ml per litre of water – use with plastic drinkers not galvanised.

Hope this helps
