Simon and Dave showing the Rochester Shirt and Croftway Sweater
Rochester Shirt £45 Croftway Sweater £69

No, you’re not seeing double (hopefully) – it’s Simon (left) and Dave (right) from Head Office. Both have very good (if not a little strange that it’s exactly the same) taste in sweaters and shirts.

And both apparently really like the colour Hyacinth.

Who’d of thought it possible?
Dave (no2)

Dave (no2) was a day late for Hyacinth Wednesday.
Something tells us that it won’t just be the women at  Joules asking “what are you wearing tomorrow?”

York and Vikings have history. Joules and Vikings do not. However that all changed when one Danish plunderer took a time out from the 25th annual Jorvik Viking Festival to get his hands on a Tuppence Bag.

He knows how to ‘wear it’.

Ok so like many other thousands of cinema goers, I spent last Friday at my local big screen watching the latest visual explosion by Tim Burton. I had played it pretty cool in the office earlier in the day and tried to not show my giddiness but secretly was very excited about this viewing.

I have to confess that I have never really been a massive fan of the Alice story, however I do hold a bit of a softspot for the dormouse after taking on the role aged 12 in a local theatre production. I kind of knew what to expect following on from my previous experiences of Burton films, I love Nighmare Before Christmas, enjoyed Sweeny Todd but still to this day find Charlie and the Chocolate Factory incredibly annoying. So I went with a clean slate and was hoping to be entertained.

As the film started, I knew I would enjoy it, not because of the amazing effects (and they are amazing) or the quirky camera angles (which do you make feel a little disorientated at times) but because of the cast. I love hearing well-known voices and quickly trying to put a name to them and you really can’t beat Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Alan Rickman as the Blue Catarpillar or even Barbara Windsor as the very bubbly Dormouse (played very well, even if I do say so myself!!!) Obviously expected stars of show were Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter who were both entertaining but very similar to previous roles they have recently played.  I didn’t recognise Mia Wasikowska as Alice, and I thought I would find her annoying but instead came out looking forward to her next film.

I know I’m not a film critic and really wouldn’t know where to start, but if you are looking for a film that is going to entertain you for its creative and graphical style, Alice in Wonderland is sure to impress. If you are looking for a film that is going to entertain your children for 1hr 50mins, then I wouldn’t recommend it. The storyline is naturally disjointed as was the original Lewis Caroll narative, but I didn’t leave feeling as inspired or giddy as I hoped.

If I was a geeky film buff, I might give this ** out of ***** but as I’m not, I wont. Instead I’ll leave it to you. Please do let me know your thoughts and if you recommend any other films at the moment.
